I've found that to keep myself engaged and entertained, I love writing poems. I love making Top Ten lists. I love keeping track of prayers and people to pray for. I love to write on my windows. You know what?! I'm not picky... I'll write on anyone's windows. It's a beautiful, transient space to gather my thoughts. You'll see.
I figured the best way to get started is to share a bit about me. There are many lists and photos I'll share, but I figured this was a good list to begin with. And after all, you've got to begin somewhere...
25. I think that shots are pretty much the worst thing ever. I hate them. Cry. Pass out. It takes me two little pills to get me into the chair to get a shot at the dentist, then 20 minutes and a box of tissues to cry off the topical shot, then another 20 minutes, a box of tissues to cry off the series of shots that came next, and time to bring circulation back to my fingers as I fold and clench my hands to keep from punching the doctor. I don’t even have a current tetanus shot. I mean if you’re going to have to get a shot when you get brutally stabbed with a rusty nail anyway – why get ANOTHER shot before just for good measure?! That’s illogical.
24. I had really bad insomnia in college for a while there – I walked away from it with three things: a deep appreciation and new-found respect for therapists, the ability to redirect my dreams or calmly wake myself up when I get too scared, and a really f’d up journal full of scribbles and drawings I made in my sleep.
23. My childhood was AWESOME. I have the fondest memories of playing in the yard, building forts, learning to shoot guns, riding motorcycles, camping, picking blackberries, swimming, working hard with my family, finding Sixlets on treasure hunts, making ornaments with grandma, playing croquet; the list is endless.
22. Texture issues – I’ve got them. Abundantly. I don’t care for onions, tapioca, tomatoes, seafood, ice cream or brownies with nuts, most – no, all casseroles, smoothies, green peas, meatloaf, cookies with nuts, day-old salad, most leftovers, polenta, oatmeal, most spongy breads; you get the picture.
21. I am fascinated with planes. I love watching them take off and land.
20. I love TV. It is my way to unwind. I like books too. I like stories. Especially stories played out on TV.
19. I’m a mountain girl. I know there are people who like the ocean and would build their house on the sand if they could, but I’d like nothing better than the woods, rivers, secluded lakes, and four distinct seasons. The mountains are God’s country. He started at the bottom (oceans) and worked his way up to the good stuff (mountains).
18. I hate clutter. It keeps me from keeping things though. There may come a day when I regret throwing out some of the things I have, but it’s all temporary anyway, right?!
17. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I love teaching. I love kids. I love my job. It's a rush! But, I’d kick it all to the curb if I could be a ninja/FBI/CTU/crazy Jack Bauer-esque agent of awesomeness.
16. I had the tendency to ditch a lot of my classes in high school. I would also come to come late to classes, solely for the reason that I was in line getting a Happy Meal for my teacher or a pastry with frosting declaring my appreciation/apologies. :)
15. I love my family sooo much – all of them. My immediate family, my cousins, aunts, uncles, second cousins – people I grew up thinking I was related to, new in-law family members – I love them all!
14. There are about 3-4 days I wish I could relive, just to take back the words I said that made people I love doubt themselves, doubt my love for them, and doubt their own beauty. It makes me cry just to think of how I failed them.
13. If I could move anywhere right now, I can only think to move closer to people I love. I’m too much of a coward to move anywhere alone, but with friends or family I’d go anywhere.
12. I love pulling pranks. There is a great rush you get pulling off something cool, smart, and funny. And, I believe there is an inherent compliment in each prank – you don’t prank people you don’t like. Like: block their tires just inches from the ground so they don’t get any traction. Don’t like: slash their tires. See?
11. I love creating top ten lists and poems. They entertain me. I’ll create a top ten list for anything from things people missed while out of the country to funny things that happened in my week.
10. I’ve only interviewed for one job my entire life. And, even then, it was fun and easy! Although it made me greatly reconsider my interpretation of “bilingual”.
9. It occurred to me the other day that despite my parents’ insistence on their stellar driving records, they must not really get it if all of their children have such “impressive” records of tickets and accidents. You can’t be that good and be that terrible of a teacher at the same time.
8. I love thunder and lightning. I think it is beautiful and such an awesome display of God’s creative and powerful nature.
7. I love the smells of campfires, dirt, snow or rain coming, BBQ, but I can’t stand perfume or cologne.
6. I like to figure out how technological things work without the manual. I love figuring out programs, new gadgets, etc. I think it all comes down to my lack of fear of pushing buttons.
5. I love lame movies – the ones others would mock; not the ones that are lame, but cool. I love the sequels to movies like “Bring It On” and “Center Stage”. Those are just good, clean fun!
4. I have the terrible habit of cleaning my room really well – taking entirely too long to clean it, going over extra little details just to make it perfect; then, I slowly build up the piles of clothes until I can’t see my carpet but can still tell the difference between clean and dirty clothes and live like that for a good month.
3. I don’t think I really read many books in high school; wait, I know I didn’t. I read maybe two. This made it really difficult to teach literature – not because I couldn’t, for it was junior high and I love to read, but then students who had moved on would come back and ask me for help and I had no clue what they were talking about: Scarlett Letter, something about Mocking Birds, Romeo and Juliet, Of Mice and Men, … you know what, this would be a shorter list if I told you I did in fact read King Rat and The Sound and the Fury.
2. My mom used to give lectures on birth order and children’s personalities and I remember her giving examples using my brothers and me to illustrate key aspects of one’s nature. It was awesome... All I remember is people knowing without a doubt that I cried a lot (okay, cry) (Okay, just read back through my list and noticed how many times I said cry… goodness). And, I remember her stating that first-born children are statistically most likely to seek counseling. And, when I was signed up for counseling in college (see number 1) I cried. I know, shocker. And, then cried some more when I remembered what she said all because I had become a statistic!
1. I have yet to meet someone who can make me laugh like my dad.
